Ocean Spray

Ocean Spray is a cooperative owned by more than 600 cranberry growers across North America and Canada and over 70 Florida grapefruit growers. It employs more than 2,000 people worldwide and is run from a headquarters surrounded by cranberry bogs in Lakeville-Middleboro, Massachusetts.

The cooperative was formed in 1930 by three cranberry growers who shared a common goal of expanding the market for their crops through innovative products.

It introduced the first ever cranberry juice drink to the USA in 1930 and the first juice blend in 1963.

In 1976, Ocean Spray expanded its membership to include grapefruit growers from Florida's Indian River region.

The 1970s also saw Ocean Spray hit the UK, with Original Cranberry Sauce fast establishing itself as a favourite accompaniment to the Christmas turkey. Leading the way in packaging, Ocean Spray introduced the first long life cartons in America in 1981 as Ocean Spray Paper Bottle™ juice containers. And in the 1980s, were the first manufacturer to package juice drinks in PET plastic bottles.

Innovative products are at the heart of what we do, and our new Blueberry Juice Drinks, introduced in 2010, are set to bring more and excitement and colour to the UK.

The spirit of resourcefulness and innovation on which the cooperative was founded back in 1930 is what still drives Ocean Spray today, to develop products that will delight consumers all round the world.
